Tea FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
Does tea have more caffeine than coffee?
No. It actually contains about half as much or less than coffee, depending on the tea. So why drink tea instead of coffee in the morning? Well leaf water has less acidity than bean water, making it gentler on your stomach. Also, one tends to not hit the dreaded "caffeine wall" that bean water can cause. Tea has so many more health benefits than coffee, such as that green tea contains a natural fluoride for your teeth, black tea is healthy for your heart, and oolong tea can help with weight loss, etc. So why not start your day with health?
What makes loose leaf tea better than tea bags?
Tea bags are usually the dust left after the full leaves have been taken away. While the dust brews up quick and strong, it tends to be bitter and tannic and doesn't contain all of the vitamins, minerals, flavonoids, etc that are in the full leaves.
What is the best way to make iced tea?
We have two ways we love to make iced tea. The first is hot brew where you brew your iced tea as if you were going to drink it hot and then let it cool. The second way is cold brew where you put the leaves in tepid water, and then into the refrigerator for 24 hours. Both methods work, but some teas do better with one over the other. Hot brew creates a bold brew where cold brew produces a lighter in color cup, but a smoother and fuller flavor. Some of the teas we love cold brewed are Peach Lavender and English Breakfast, especially.
What health benefits can you get from drinking tea?
Tea is any drink made from the camellia sinensis plant. Within that plant, depending on how the plant is processed, you will find different health benefits. For example, green tea has been shown to help fight cancer, whereas black tea when 2-3 cups/day are consumed have shown a reduced incidence of heart attacks. These teas come from the same plant, but how that plant was processed makes the difference. In addition, almost every herb, spice, and flower can become "tea" or a tisane. Almost all modern medicines come from plants or our plant world. With this knowledge, one can utilize teas to help with their health.
