Hygge New Year
Hygge New Year just celebrated it's 8th year! This recurring event takes place the first Saturday after the new year. The tagline, "New Year, Same You" celebrates embracing yourself, your wellness and the new year.
The event started in 2017 as a way to shirk the idea of resolutions while celebrating a new to me way of dealing with winter and the cold, Hygge. Said Hoo-GA, it is the Danish art of embracing cozy. It is the way those who live in colder climates stay happier in the winter. They bundle up and take a walk in the snow. They make soup and light candles and concentrate on their well being. This was life changing for me. Winter had become a time when I got sad and was so cold I would stay in for days at a time. Changing my mindset helped me deal better with this cold dark time of year.
So what do we do for the event?
Well it started out only in the tea shop and library. We brought together people from the wellness community and asked them to do shortened services to keep the prices under $20. We had free classes and some vendors. Then COVID hit..... We shifted to an online platform for two years before opening up the event to spaces across Millvale. 2023 was the first year for that format and it was great.
This year we had practitioners in five locations and in the other 5 locations were classes, shopping, drinks and more.
While we were hit with snow at the start of the event, we still had people turn out to get cozy with us.
This year we had yoga, mental health painting, shadow workshop, breath work workshops, mediumship gallery reading, reiki, acupuncture, EFT Tapping, massage, sound healing with meditation, ayurvedic workshop, tea tasting, kombucha making class, bonsai class, NA cocktail class, saging, spell jar making, facials, a knitting circle, vendors selling everything from cozy knits to hot cocoa bombs, to earrings, to jam, to green home practices and items. Plus we had Hygge Food!!!!
It was an AMAZING day full of great people offering amazing things!
Mark your calendar for next year! January 4, 2025
