Dry January and National Hot Tea Month!
Dry January and National Hot Tea Month happen at the same time and I don't think it is a coincidence!
Tea makes a great NA cocktail choice because you get flavor, tannins, and the healing properties of tea and herbs without all of the sugar. Many NA cocktails or mocktails are made with sugary juices and sodas or a mix of them. I've found myself nursing a different kind of hangover after having mocktails, the sugar crash one.
By using tea and controlling the sweet yourself, you can get a delicious refreshing drink with zero hangover.
In this particular drink we are highlighting Timberrr. Orignially blended as a lumberjack/jill blend for the winter, we have fallen in love with its unique flavors.
A black tea blend is the base with juniper berries, lavender, lemon peel, and licorice root (for sweetness).
For a very long time, black tea was considered "unhealthy" by doctors, however, this is far from the truth. Black tea contains polyphenols that have similar effects as resveratrol. It also has L-theanine which supports brain functions.
Juniper berries are shown to help fight inflammation. Similarly, lavender has a soothing effect and is really calming both on the body and spirit.
The inspiration for this drink comes from a Gin Fizz although the mouth feel of the tea and botanicals really adds some pizazz. You can taste the tannins on your tongue while inhaling the light scents of lavender and juniper.
Make this cocktail as a great end of the day wind down or as an all night sipper at a party.
We love the creaminess the aquafaba/egg white add, however, if they are not your thing, you can leave them out. Similarly, if you like some bubbles, add some club soda or bubbly water. We found it more enjoyable without, however, a little fizz is sometimes the answer to life.
